The Hooper Ancestry

To follow Anne’s ancestors, we will first go back to Anne’s great-great-great grandfather, Thomas.

Thomas Hooper/Hoper was christened June 21, 1539 in Bransford, Worcester, England. Thomas married Margaret Poole in 1562. Their son, George Hooper (Sr.) was born August 11, 1583, in Maulden, Bedford, England. George Sr. had a son, George Hooper, Jr., christened on April 14, 1625 in St. James, Clerkenwell, London, England. In 1646, George Jr. married Elizabeth (name unknown) at Clement’s Inn in St. James, London, England.

George Jr. and Elizabeth’s son, Stephen Hooper - Anne’s grandfather - was born on November 24, 1667, in Triverton, Devon, England. Young Stephen sailed to America with his parents and the rest of his family. In 1689, Stephen served at Fort Albany and fought against the Indians and French. While at Fort Albany, he met a friend and eventually went to Staten Island with him. There, Stephen fell in love and married his friend’s sister, Marie Melot/Mellat, in 1699.

Stephen and Marie’s son, Clement Hooper, was born sometime around 1700 in Staten Island, Richmond County, NY. Clement married Mary Stilwell/Stillwell around 1726. In 1748, Clement and Mary left Staten Island and moved to Middlesex, New Jersey. Clement died around 1777.

Their daughter, Anne Hooper, had been born November 4, 1728 in Staten Island. Anne was the third child of seven. As mentioned above, Anne married Isaac Cubberly.
